"Eat Green" Shamrock Printable

With St. Patty's day around the corner and having just attended the Natural Foods Expo #expowest (you will hear about that more later this week)- I have been inspired to be more green! Including eating more green food, recycling/reusing, and buying more organic and natural products. I made this design for my kitchen as daily stimulation to be GREEN.

I'm in love with the two-toned clover :)

This is an 8X10 jpeg printable.
Hope you love it!

How To Deep Clean Your Kitchen in 10 minutes a day

My kitchen always seems to be dirty.  All those home cooked meals and snacks - it is a constant cycle of doing dishes, wiping down counters, and sweeping floors.  Sometimes I feel like the deep cleaning doesn't get done because I'm so busy doing the everyday cleaning. Here is my solution.  And this is advice I need to take myself...I have made this is my goal - to keep my kitchen clean, hygenic, and from getting out of hand.

So together we are gonna go from here: (please tell me everyone's kitchen looks like this sometimes)

To here:

Deep cleaning your kitchen can be overwhelming, so I'm gonna break it down for ya.  To make it easier to get such a big job done - and we're gonna do it in 10 minutes a day (maybe a few extra minutes here and there...but the standard is 10 minutes.)  A little trick my mom used to do when we were growing up, and a trick that will help you too is to set your timer.  When my mom gave us chores as kids she would set the timer.  It kept us focused and made the job seem like it wasn't that big of a deal - so we're gonna do the same.  Set your timer - give yourself 10 minutes with no distractions.

This list is assuming that you are doing your dishes daily, wiping your counters down daily, and sweeping daily.  Of course there will be days here and there where you aren't able to do these daily tasks - but as a normal the 3 basics need to be done each day.  It's a pain - I know it, but it has to be done.

Here we go:

Day 1 - Wipe down the outsides of your appliances.

Day 2 - Wipe down the outsides of your cabinets.  A Magic Eraser is my favorite method.

Day 3 - Deep clean your sink.  I like to wet the entire thing, sprinkle with Comet and use a green scrubber pad and a little elbow grease to make it sparkle.

Day 4 - Clean the outsides of small appliance like mixers, can openers, and blenders.

Day 5 - Deep clean your counters by removing all items - canisters, small appliance, fruit bowl - everything.  Use a bleach based cleanser to wipe down the entire surface.  I like the Clorox wipes or the Clorox Clean Up spray.

Day 6 - Purge expired foods and leftovers from your fridge.  Remove all items from your fridge and wipe down surfaces.  Give yourself an extra 10 minutes for this one.

Day 7 - Mop the floor. Put towels and wash rags in the laundry. My favorite mops?  Either the Shark Steam Mop of the Swiffer Wet Jet.

Day 8 - Clean your microwave.  Have caked on food?  Try putting a bowl of water in the microwave for 3 minutes to loosen the food - then wipe clean.

Day 9 - Deep clean your stovetop.

Day 10 - Remove all items from your freezer and wipe down surfaces (may take an extra 10 minutes.)

Day 11- Wipe down walls and baseboards. Dust around the room where the ceiling meets the wall to get rid of cobwebs.

Day 12 - Tackle your oven.  If you have a self cleaning oven, turn it on in the morning and let it run - then wipe out the remains.  If you don't have a self cleaning oven - try Easy Off oven spray overnight.  Spray it on, let it sit overnight and then wipe it out in the morning.  This one may take a few extra minutes - but its worth it.  If you keep your oven under control you won't have to spend an entire day cleaning out all the caked on stuff.

Day 13 -  Wash windows inside and out.  Wipe down window seals.

Day 14 - Mop the floor. Put towels and wash rags in the laundry.

Repeat

Also - every 6 months it is a good idea to remove everything from your cabinets and wipe them down.  If this job seems daunting - you can break this one down too.  Do one cabinet per day until you have completed the task.

To keep this list handy download your free printable.  I suggest taping it to the inside of your pantry for a quick reminder.

How To Meal Plan and Grocery Shop {FREE Printable)

We've all been there.  At the grocery store.  With no list.  And we all know what the outcome of a trip without a list is.  Lots of extras in the cart and lots of extra trips to gather the things you forgot!

Meal planning and grocery planning is something I've been doing since I was first married.  It was something my mom did, and it is something you should do too!

For the longest time I used a 3 list method.  Sometimes I still do!  Here is my process:

First, I grab my pad and my pen.

This is my favorite pen by-the-way.  The Sharpie Pen, and not just the Sharpie Pen, but the one that clicks.  I can't keep track of the caps, so a clicking pen is perfect for me.  I love how they write!

I start by making a list of the meals we'll be eating until my next grocery trip.  Be sure to include dinners, lunches, and breakfasts.

What's on my nails this time?  Essie brand polish in Butler Please.  Love this shade so so much!

From that list I make a second list of the ingredients I need to create the meals.

Did you know that I'm a font?  Yep - you heard me right, I'm a font - Pea Kadee to be exact.  And my font is free to anyone who wants it.  You can type just like I write thanks to the Kevin and Amanda Blog.  Download my font HERE.

THEN from that list I make a third list separating the ingredients into categories (produce, meat, dairy, etc.)

My goal at the grocery store is to be in and out as quickly as possible - so I don't want to have to backtrack to an aisle I've already been down.  Dividing the items into categories makes your trip faster, easier, and keeps you on track.  The only thing worse than going back and forth all over the store for your items is to leave the store with a dozen un-needed things that caught your eye.

NOW let's talk about a more tech savvy, efficient way of doing this process.  Now-a-days we have AWESOME technology.  There are lots and lots of grocery shopping and meal planning apps that are available on your smart phone or tablet.  I've tried several, but most recently I've enjoyed this app: MealBoard.

You can add all your favorite recipes to the app, and assign them to different days for your meal plan.  THEN it will automatically make a grocery list for you!  love it!

You can also take an inventory of your pantry so you don't purchase items you already have.

Another feature that I love about this particular app is that when you add an item you can select a store that you plan on buying it at...and then it will divide your items between different stores.  So - if you're like me you can plan a trip to Costco for the bulk items and to your local grocery store for the odds and ends.

Let's not forget about actually doing the shopping.  When I get to the grocery store I always start in the produce section and then move towards the back of the store.  There I pick up my dairy and meats.  Next I hit the bakery section and then weave my way up and down the aisles ending in the produce section again.  I find this method to work the most efficiently and the most quickly.

So - grab your favorite shopping parter and head to the market (and don't forget to snap a low-quality cell phone pic, ha ha.)

One more thing before I go - what about the meals you've planned?  A great way to keep them fresh on your mind and to give your family some input it so make a visual menu.  At our house we like to just list the meals and then pick an item from the list that sounds good.  Some people like to plan what they eat each day, but we like having a "menu" to choose from.

How 'bout a printable?  Print this guy out on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper, trim it to 8x10 and then place it in a frame.  Use a dry erase marker to list your upcoming meals and simply cross them out or erase them when you've made them.

I "Mustache" You - Will You Be My Valentine? {FREE Printables!}

Valentine's Day was always a favorite of mine when I was a kid.  I LOVED decorating a mailbox for school and then addressing the box of Valentine cards my mom would pick up at the store.  I would sort out the conversation hearts to make sure that none of the "kiss me" or "I love you" hearts were delivered to the wrong people.

I loved Des's idea for our Kid's Valentines' Day party.  So cute, and so clever.  To add to the ambiance I created a few printables, that I am sharing with you!  For FREE!

First, let's start off with an 8x10.  You can print this off on an 8.5x11 and then place it in an 8x10 frame.  It is a perfect addition to a treat table or as a decoration in your home.

Download your free 8x10 HERE

Next, lets talk about goodie bags.  The possibilities are endless.  Fill cellophane bags with candies, cookies, or a fun non-food item like I did.  I filled mine with Hotwheels cars for the boys and Barbie nail polish for the girls.  Crayons, bouncy balls, lip balm, and Lego's would be fun too!

These toppers are so so easy and turn out so so cute.  Just print them out, cut them out, fold them in half, and staple them on top of your cellophane treat bag.  Perfect for your kids friends, or their teacher!

Lastly - a simple printable valentine for the good old fashioned flat card in an envelope with a few conversation hearts.  So nostalgic and classic!  Print them out, trim them, address, and put them in your own envelopes.

Fall Checklist {Free Printable}

Fall is my FAVORITE time of year!  I love the clothes, I love the smells, and I LOVE Halloween.  It is a time of year I try to savor and really enjoy.  This year I had a little list going in my head of things I wanted to do to enjoy this season, and then I saw a few checklists for holidays while browsing on Pinterest and thought I should make one of my own.  Here is what I want to do this fall, and you can complete this fun list with me.  Below you will find a free printable.  I framed mine in an 8x10 frame and I use a dry erase marker to mark off on the glass the items we have completed.  We've already done 4 of them - gone on a date, decorated the house, burned fall candles (Leaves from Bath and Body Works is my absolute fav,) and started Christmas shopping.

Here is how I used my list as fall decor.  I placed it right along side my Halloween decorations on my buffet table.  Looks great!

What is your favorite time of year?  Would you like to see more of the checklists for other seasons/holidays?! We can keep them coming!
