Yummy Soft Sugar Cookies

These sugar cookies are SO GOOD that we eat most of them without frosting! I just made a bunch for a Halloween party and I make tons of them for almost every holiday. Hope you enjoy!!!

1/2 cup shortening
1/4 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 2/3 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 cup sour cream
Mix shortening and margarine, sugar, egg and vanilla thoroughly. Blend in remaining ingredients.

Divide dough and chill. (chill for a few hours for optimal cut-out shapes!)

Roll out on floured surface, about 1/4 inch thick. Cut in desired shapes and place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake in pre-heated oven at 350ยบ F. for 6-8 minutes (the edges will be just turning golden). May be dropped by spoonfuls on cookie sheet and flattened with a glass which has been dipped in sugar. Bake 10-12 minutes if you use this way.

  2. I'm excited to make these! question...how long do you chill?

  3. Chill at least long enough that the doughis easy to work with not sticky and your cookiescome clean out of the cookie cutters. I usually like to leave it for at least an hour before I begin the first round and just pull out what I will be rolling and leave the rest in the fridge until I'm ready to work with it. if you're in a hurry you can through it in the freezer for a quicker chill. Hope you enjoy them as much as we do. Can't wait to hear how it goes
